Hello there fellow students, faculty, and staff!
We would like to formally welcome you to GWU ACM Student Chapter's newly-launched website. If you have no idea who or what ACM is, fear not. As the logo at the top of this site states, ACM stands for Association for Computing Machinery. Here at GW we have a student chapter of this National Organization, our main goal being the enrichment and expansion of the field of Computer Science beyond the classroom and into our extracurricular and professional lives.
If you have any desire or appetite for Comp Sci beyond the work you do for class, you're not alone! Our members have a wide variety of interests, including Cyber Defense, Network Security and Administration, Web Design, Computer Graphics and Animation, Game Development, and Open-Source Software Programming, to name a few. If you would like to join ACM, or are merely interested in some more information, feel free to contact us in-person or through the "Contact" link above.
On the other hand, if membership isn't something you are interested in, don't stop reading just yet! We're hoping one day for this website to become a central hub or repository for anyone involved in the CS Department or Major. Just a few of the features that we already have available or will be in the near future:
- Calendar & Events - Set a date aside for an event that you know about, would like to host, or would like to see be done. Invite others, keep track of RSVPs, and have a full-fledged discussion or commentary about the event.
- Forum - General Discussion of all things Computer Science. Ask Questions of your peers, share interesting or insightful articles or tutorials, or whatever your heart desires.
- Image Gallery - Have photos from an event? Share them here!
- Resources - Some members from our Chapter, passionate about certain fields within CS, will post a running blog or technical articles for all to benefit from. Whether it's tips and tricks picked up over the years, or information about new brand-new technology or applications, we'll be discussing it. Popular past conversations have included Vim vs Emacs, Which Programming Language is Right For Me?, and What Motivates a Computer Scientist.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, so please don't hesitate to register and/or subscribe to our RSS feed. Don't know what an RSS feed is? See, there's one good reason you should check us out. Hidden gems of the internet and computer industry are hiding everywhere, and they're a shame to miss.
